Kris Alingod - AHN Contributor Washington, D.C (AHN) - Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, who endorsed President-elect Barack Obama during the campaign, will issue a statement together with the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) on Friday.
Powell and the PIC will hold a joint press conference at 12:15 pm ET at the Mayflower hotel in Washington, D.C. A statement from the Obama transition team said Powell, who was said to be a contender for a Cabinet post under the new administration, will discuss "President-elect Obama's call to national service."
A national security adviser to Ronald Reagan, Powell became a four-star Army general and the first African-American secretary of State under President George W. Bush. He announced his support for Obama on Oct. 19 on NBC's 'Meet the Press.'
